- You will improve your lifestyle through eating better and through exercise. This will help you to control your weight over time
- You will also improve your overall health and well being. This will help you to avert future ill health
Do More Exercise For Weight Loss
- 30 minutes of daily exercise is recommended. Brisk walking, riding a bicycle, tennis, dancing and gardening are legitimate forms of exercise
- Find ways to be more physically active. Walk up stairs rather that using the escalator or elevator.
- Whenever possible, walk or ride your bicycle rather than driving to where you want to go. By increasing your physical activity, you will burn more calories. This will keep the calories from being stored as fat in your body. Your body will begin to use previously stored fat for energy. When this happens you lose fat from your body.
Reduce Your Intake Of Calories
- Each of us require a different amount of calories per day, depending on how active we are. You may need between 1,500 – 2,500 calories a day
- A rule of thumb is that to lose 1 to 2 pounds a week, you should aim to eat 300 to 500 fewer calories a day
Practice Portion Control
- Eat smaller amounts of food at each meal
- Instead of eating 3 large meals a day, eat 5-6 small meals that are evenly spread out throughout the day
