Uncle Tom hardly ever really took proper care of his health. No wonder that I could always recollect him to be a fat man. I must say that if it were not for his wife Matilda, I doubt whether he would be alive today, as she was always getting food from him and prodding him to cease eating. At home, Matilda did her best to prepare well balanced meals and foods that comprised little fats. Desserts rarely formed part of the menu as aunt Matilda tried to control her husband’s bad eating.
Unfortunately my uncle always loved to consume sweets, or be it all kinds of food that contained sugar. Therefore it comes to no real surprise that Tom goes regularly to the supermarket to shop for biscuits, cakes, chocolates or any food product which he crazes for.
My aunt says that Tom is used to eating an entire packet of biscuits during coffee time. Matilda does her best to control her husband’s eating while in their home, though she is not always successful. However she’s not with him at work and who knows which kind of foods and sweets my uncle eats during work hours.
Multiple doctors recommended that he ought to shed weight because he was risking severe health complications, nevertheless it all fell on deaf ears. Whenever someone told him that he should eat better and less for his own good, my uncle would once say that we only live once. Not surprisingly, uncle Tom’s son and daughter also like to eat chocolates, cakes and sweets. “Like father like son”, as they say.
Unfortunately a few days back uncle Tom had a blood test and the results showed that he has diabetes type 2. After the doctor explained what the symptoms of type 2 diabetes could in fact be, my uncle was shocked.
One more thing his doctor told him was to buy a glucose meter or at best to apply for a free glucose meter. The doctor told him that just watching what food he eats is not really enough.
The words of the doctor had a horrible impact on my uncle. While he’s started to regulation his consumption of sweets and sugared foods, Tom got desperate and has stopped being the cheerful person as I always remembered him. However, Tom still has to follow his doctor’s recommendation in obtaining a glucose meter.
Yesterday I was looking on the net for glucose meters and I found a website that enables you to get a freely available glucose meter. Whilst browsing around using the net I came to understand that glucose meters also go by the name of glucometers.
I completed the form with the information of uncle Tom and submitted the form to get the free glucometer. This is the least I really could do for my poor uncle.
I wish to know the amount of time would it require them to send out the free glucose meter.
